what are you trying to get at? so what if 90% of the people on here arent certified mechanics its meaning that 90% of you probably dont know enough to realise the effects of parts and designs, how they work, and how they can help or hinder getting what you want from your vehicle. OR what i see lots of, UNSAFE REPAIRS. a girl came in here bought a civic from someone off ricers, can't rmeber who anymore, it was apparently an "SI" civic..... in reality it wasn't.... it was hacked together... 90% of the bolts were stripped on everything... then i found the remote starter installed with stereo wiring that ended up lighting the dash on fire from being wired improperly.

Look at how much money I have into my BMW, Corey. I stop counting at 16,000. For that price I could have a used 350Z or some RHD rocket that come preassembled and is still tuned for 98 octane. yet, I still continue to sink money into it, and I would be lucky to have 170hp at the wheels. For some people its about doing something unique.
And Cam, its a car forum full of "mostly" teenagers, and "few" know anything about cars, except that the right peddal makes the car go faster, what do you expect.

| what you dont realise is when someone who only has a vague idea of how it works and waht is a smart plan and what isnt. Is you not only endager your own life but others aswell. I've seen some pretty gross stuff and seen bad things happen. Have you ever seen what a pedestrian or a car that has been hit by a tire that came off? I saw the aftermath of a women that got hit by a big mudder tire that came off a truck. what do you think was left of her getting hit by 100lbs of tire spinning at 60kmph?
what you don't realise is your drive 2000lb< or more for most vehicles, of machine that can cause a lot of damage. ALL it takes is one bolt, or one nut, or something installed wrong to have a catastrophic effect on you or someelse that wasn't intended. People make mistakes yes, and people do forget things. But for me My license pretoects me if something happens. if your not certified and your fixing peoples cars and something happens. all it takes is one person and your so far up shit creek its not funny. People just don't seem to realise they drive a weapon. and all it takes is one piece or part. to destroy your car, or you, or someone else. Every vehicle should be driven with respect, once that respect for a bigger power is gone is when it will come back to bite you.
Respect the machine, because it won't respect you back when you loose that. Know when it's out of your league and let someone who has the know how handle it.

Know when it's out of your league and let someone who has the know how handle it. that sucks for that lady. but i've seen mechanics do some dumb shit too. u can't say cuz ur certified u can guarantee nothing will go wrong. ur right in the fact everyone does make mistakes. but just cuz ur certified doesnt give u the right to tell us its dangerous for us to work on our cars.

In all seriousiousness make a Q & A thread for us Jason so if any of us have questions you could possibly help us out? This is not a beak of any sort. I am confused on how to wire a turbocharger unit in. corey you got a mechanic for a brother, im surprised to see this type of ignorance comming from you. I don't deal with little kids who think they know more than they infact do. and "specialty forums" are just a nother group of people that learn from eachother whether the information they recieve is right or not. Zilvia is a fine example of that. I help people if they ask for it, and always have. but if people get in my face trying to tell me shit I let them discouver it for them selves. Just because I can weld doesn't make me good at.. or even know the first thing about it. I was taugh generally enough to be able to operate and know whats good and whats bad. but i would never dare beak a journeymen welder. I garuntee no matter how good i thought i was He/She'd school me. I'm good and mechanic and specialise in driveline. I will never know it all, thats impossible. But after almost 10 years... i have a right to say i know what im talking about whether you believe me or not. I've known very good technicians and hobbiest's with great knowledge and skills. but skills and knowledge don't come from a book with cars. they can give you theory and thats all. because you read it... doean't make it true. because some guy said something doesn't make it true either. But there is a right way and wrong way to do everything. If anyone actually wants to learn and not be ingornat and need a helping hand or some advice or knowledge i lend it. But ask or act stupid you'll get the same back. Respect the people that have the knowledge and experince over you. You can try and play plumber or mechanic or what ever, and you may get it fixed... but that only gets you so far before you need someone with the real knowledge and skill to do it

And im not saying you "can't" lol im saying there's a lot more to it than what people think. It's important to atleast know fundamentals and have some experience around someone who is a good tech or teacher. atleast you know some of the basics and in's and outs, do's and don'ts

| from places ive been and people and techs i know. there are only "people" you can trust. not businesses. there are 2 other techs id trust at my work out of 5 to do the job right. 2 techs at wheat country motors, and 1 tech and nissan. those would be the only guys i would trust diagnosing and fixing my shit right the first time. AS for machining and engine work, theres only 2 people I trust, other than myself. Don at siast in moose jaw and Bruce at ABS. bruce is a dick... but he is a fucking walking car god. he has a right to be an ass to anyone with his skill level.
I can tell you a shop full of techs I would never trust... and thats AUTO HOST. i bought my crotch rocket from the owner... huge mistake. guy is a huge fucking hack... and I ended up fixing sooo much on my bike becuase it "looked" and "seemed" to run right.... ya was all good for about 5 blocks. Jason Kong and mitsu guys r hacks, i can tell you that.... ive seen lots of there shit and i don't appreciate having to do it again after. The customer also doesn't like paying more to have it fixed proper a second time. Same with people at canadian tires.... i know a couple... and ya.... that's... some scary shit
But like i said i know some back yard guys who could challenege a tech ticket and probably get it. But for most back yard guys.... we get tons come back with them saying "well i just replaced it" and it's because they didn't do it right.... like brake pads upside down.....

well i dunno what kinda car it is, or who touched it. but it wasn't me. and because the air bag light came one means what to you? was it on before? did she hit something? lol there totally different systems so i don't see how that could happen from an alignment or o2 change, but who knows

| speaking of machining, I was chatting with a Bruce who I work with, and guess what I found? He was the machinist who machined heads for Cosworth, and he made the head that Michael Shuemaker(sp?) won his first F1 world championship with. I was like wholly fuck, wow. But anyways, yes, there are quite a few hacks out there, and I know I', guilty of doing it atleast once, but you usually end up paying for it tenfold when you have to re-do it again the second time. fun fun. | |
