| what is a good place to learn about turbos? not just the basic but more advanced stuff as well configuration, cooling, architecture even history. what makes a turbo better than others? how to figure out what turbo for what kind of engine? water cool vs oil cooled? better brands out there aka best bang for the buck what does meth have to do with this? all i know is the drug (note: never done it) im trying to do the research as well but i wonder if you know some cool sites as well thanks | |

| Meth cools the intake charge( like an intercooler), reduces knock, and cleans the inside of your engine. Some people inject water, which cools inside the combustion chamber, and also reduces knock. It is said that if you inject water pre-turbo, it will shift the compressor map over, making the turbo slightly more efficient at certain pressure levels. The reason people still use intercoolers is that water/meth is only being injected while in boost, whereas an intercooler cools all the time. | |

| thanks guys...
evan: couple questions. water in te combustion camber? aint that bad? hydrolocking? maybe im getting the wrong picture here.also, ppl can use meth and intercooler right. i dont see why not, just wanted to ask.
for what ive read this billet casting seems to be the next thing in turbos over the iron cast?

| Water itself is bad yes Like driving through a lake.. But when used in this kind of application it's atomized (very fine mist), the water acts like air moving it's way through the system. It removes heat and help to reduce the chance of knock inside the combustion chamber. it lets you run more boost on a certain grade fuel then would otherwise be possible.
I'm not a big fan, but it's proven very popular lately. They started doing it int he 70s & 80's, before all electronic goodies took over and made tuning a lot more accurate and easy.

| turbo chargers have come such a long way since early desgins of the 80's or even 90's. Ball bearing desgin I think is one of the awesome invention we are blessed with today as well. Also Water cooled factory turos allowed alot more relablity out of them too(no more oil cooking issues, however quality of oil back then also was a cause and could be argued).Anti-surge housing another cool thing.
Also with the water injection topic I have heard of people spraying it in the intake before the turbo with different results comapred to thoses after the turbo. I also heard though that over time the cool water dropplets when they hit the hot impeller blades can causing pitting over time.
