1993 Corolla engine knock

driving home from a game of rec soccer, the engine started to knock past 2500rpm, there was just under half on the dip stick, sounds like a lifter, but if you hold it at a constant rpm the tick goes away. dad thinks its the timing belt, any suggestions?

well, its a harder tick, and the oil pressure is good

Could be a fucked lifter, take it apart and eliminate possible causes

timing belt? definately a noisely lifter. I know some older cars (mine does it) tick loudly all the time, but that noise is my fuel injectors, but that is what you get with Bosch Fuel injectors. To find out where the nosie is comming from: take a long screw driver, put the tip on the engine, and teh other end too your ear. that will magnify the noise, and you can move the screw driver around till you find out where the noise is comming from. it will help you find out what lifter is noisy.
