I don't quite see why everyone is worried about the civic no longer in Japan...

well, in the article it said they shut it down because the Honda Fit is doing much better because its smaller and easier to drive on smaller roads in japan, europe, etc.. so i guess what is says about the civic is that its too big for the roads overseas?

Oh also, why everyone is so worried is because in japan, they have different styling of civics compared to usdm civic's. Like any other brand of car... which in most everyones opinion looks much much better... no more civic's being made in japan = not many japanese parts for the 8th gen civic.

Indeed, poking fun aside. The Civic has out grown it's original design ideal.

But every compact car with long history has done this. Essentially they grow in size and price every generation. In fact a current 4 door Civic, is actually bigger then the original 4 door Accord.
- The VW Golf/Jetta. It's gotten bigger and more expensive over the years. VW has smaller cars, like the Polo and Fox in europe. But for some reason their fix was just to drop the prices massively on the Jetta/Golf. But like the Subaru Impreza, this has made for a huge price discrepancy between base model, and top model car.
-The BMW 3 series, same thing, They fixed it by bringing out the 1 series (which is still bigger then the OG 3 series),
- Honda fixed it by bringing out the Fit/Jazz (which is also bigger then the OG Civic).
