Any tips? =) | |

| First car was a Mercury Cougar, also my first winter car haha. 3 bags of salt, good winter tires and some patience and you'll be find. Keep in mind regardless if its rwd or not wintertime getting anywhere takes longer. Take your time, don't take foolish risks thinking you can overtake someone and you'll be good. | |

Is that better than salt? Some information encase you weren't already aware of. In winter its best just to ditch the subs because cold weather the sub woofer will get very cold and if blasting them while still frozen you will destroy them. More weight the better but you also don't want to kill your gas mileage by hauling around a invisible trailer basically. I can't stress this enough get a set of winter tires, some may say blah blah winter tires suck. But they really do make all the difference.

Alright, I will get rid of the sub and shit, but where would I get "Good" winter tires, My parents are willing to buy them, so I might as well get some pretty good ones, within a reasonable price range. Where would I go, Canadian Tire, Kal Tire? etc?

| I think I have driven a 240SX for more winters than anyone else on this message board so I will give you my opinion.
I would recommend that you DO NOT put anything in the trunk for traction. Our cars already have almost a perfect 50/50 weight ratio. Putting a bunch of weight in the trunk will only make the ass end heavy and when trying to stop or start on an icy road could cause your ass end to swing out while trying to stop. Also it is hard enough trying to start out on a road that is icy with any sort of a crown with no weight in the back. I would hate to see what happens when you throw more weight.
As for winter tires. If you want the absolute best you can get. Go to Kal Tire and get Nokian Hakkepiliita Q's. They will set you back about $175 a corner but blow blizzak or anyother winter tire out of the water. One think I havent tries is studded tires but I bet they would work well. Otherwise I have riun the last few winters on $90 specials and they work just fine. As long as you get winter tires and ditch the all seasons you should be good.

| id highly reccomend the Dunlop graspics at walmart. They are dirt cheap, and for the price they work pretty good. And you cant really beat the warranty.
My friend had an escort with the Nokians, they seemed hardly any better, if at all than the dunlops.
And yes winter tires DO make a huge difference, especially if you have good ones.
I use the Goodyear nordics (can tire)

| studded tires are overrated. They tear up the road, and they don't help you at all in the snow. And they barely help you out on Ice, becasue as soon as you spin the tires, the studs are useless. I used a set of studded witer tires last year, and the car would go through anything, but at the end up winter, I had no studs left(I wonder why haha). If you buy winter tires, but the skinniest you can fit on your rims, and that will safely support your vehicle. skinny tires make it easier to cut through the snow, so you can get down to pavement and "bite" into the road. As for the weight in the back, I would say one bag of salt. They don't really affect your your fuel economy all that much, nor your weight distrobution. Place teh bag as far to the back as possible, and be sure to secure it so it doesn't slide around. My old winter car(JasonG's car now) has a 50/50 ish weight distrobution, and it helped enormously to get going if you were at a light(and that car had an LSD in it). But if you don't want to use it, atleast have a bag ready for when there is a big snow storm. It doesn't matter what your weight distrobution is if you can't get going. | |

| golks knows what hes talking about . the car is 50/50. you trow salt bangs in the back you get a hammar effect. Throw a hammer in the air and see what happends. The weight in the back will help you get traction from a stand still, but thats it. You start brakeing while your are turning just a little... your back end will swing out really easly. Sure it can be fun, but you sound kinda like a "new driver" so.... get some winter tires. the end. | |

| I drove my 81 malibu all winter and it really wasn't that bad. Everyone said it would be horrible but it really wasn't. And I have BFGoodrich Radial T/A's on it and they are rated like a 4 or 5 out of 10 for winter lol. Just get some good winter tires and go from there. My uncle had those michelin ones and they were damn good.
Just basicaly breathe on the pedal from a stand still and the tires really don't slip that much.
My malibu weighs about 3500 lbs with me in it, I'm sure a 240 weighs less, so should be easier stopping. And stopping in the malibu wasn't that bad at all.. Just dont speed, I think I usually drove 45-50 on any road.
I think the worst thing about driving it in the winter was that I did not have command start, and also when it flooded, especially when its like -40 out..
