| preloaded the suspension then torqued everything to spec, got rear LCA's in, ebrake cables hooked up, lights/bumper back on, new lip and mud guards on, exhaust back in, misc interior parts back in, master cylinder/booster in, brakes bled, stopped gas leak from drain bolt, new rims mounted on the hubs, got car rolling again and washed it! Good 7 hours completing my car today. | |

| Brought the rear ride up 26-30mm, depending how you measure it.
Sounds like a lot, but I had tucked rubber reverse rake before, so now I have a bit of just proper rake, and room for mexi-poke wheels this weekend. But still need to remove flares and chop out everything underneath first. No pics sorry.

| decided ive had enough of my cars paint looking like shit so i am taking on the roll of painting it myself. yesterday i sanded the rear bumber trunk and about half of each quarter panel today doing some more and hopefully be laying paint by friday so i can let it sit over the weekend to cure. threw on some stock prelude wheels so i dont have to worry about my other rims getting paint on them. as well i am pulling dents sanding minor rust spots hopefully all goes well i've only ever painted winter beaters and not a car im actually trying to make look nice | |

| You turned your garage into a spray booth? If you have a couple HVLP guns, a decent compressor/regulator/line dryer (HVLP's are pretty air easy though, you don't need a monster compressor anymore) You should be alright. What paint are you spraying? 2 stage yes? I think they very hardest part is the final sanding should you fuck up the clear application. But 2 Stage paints are more forgiving to this, and HVLP guns are so easy to spray with. Practice on some cardboard before you start. Otherwise if it goes on ok, take it to a good detailer and let him do the final cut and buff. The orange peel will go away and the mirror shine will come! http://www.newhillgarage.com/Page32.htmlI've painted other older cars, but when I finally tackle my VW, I want it to be the best I can do. Prep work is most crucial, bad tape lines and lazy prep will lead to flaking paint. Google is your best friend here. My MG is so rouagh it will probably get sprayed in Tremclad cut with Mineral spirits, and clear coated over. Some cars are just too full of Fiberglass filler to ever be really nice. I'll be going for a down a dirty vintage motorsport look anyways, a 100%straight body is not crucial on it. | |

| ya get a 2 stage paint soooo much nicer to work with... I have used just my HVLP gun with regulator and dryers and a few fans for circulation and poly tarped all over my garage and the key is make sure you soak your garage floor prior to painting (just run your garden hose over the garage floor before you start painting) to keep the dust the fuck away from your paint lol... And clear is tricky to use but if your carefull it'll turn out good... and like Heretic said once you are done with it take it in somewhere and get it cut n polished... Remember one key thing even tho you are amped to paint it and your loving how its turning out slow yourself and pace yourself spray one coat then walk away for at least an hour (maybe more depending on paint) and then sand and lay another coat and continue doing that. Dont just rush it because it will show very quickly ... GL | |

| I drove my car today. Had to park in the parkade which required me crawling over the shifter to lean out the window to get my ticket. I refuse to get out and get the ticket stub because that way the Man wins! | |

I'll be going for a down a dirty vintage motorsport look anyways, a 100%straight body is not crucial on it. spraying on cardboard wont be the same as spraying on a car, as the paint will absorb into the cardboard. When laying paint, you want to get it as heavy as possible, without making it run, any less, and youll be adding texture to the paint, which is the last thing you want. Start spraying on the hood or the roof, as it is a good flat spot, and the paint will have a hard time running. Its good practice. ALWAYS KEEP A WET EDGE when youre painting. When youre doing the body work and you think it looks good, spray the entire section with primer, let it dry, then lightly sand it with a sanding block, this is called a guide coat, and it will let you know all your high and low spots so you can fill them accordingly. For youre garage, poly off everything, (you probably already know that. And when youre painting make sure your floor is wet as it will make sure you dont stir up any dust while you are working. Have youre furnace running as the filter will also pull up dust out of the air about an hour before you paint, but turn it off while you are painting, as the added airflow could cause overspray particles to land on parts of the car that youve already painted and give it the orangepeel appearance.
