Wanting to buy a Toyota Soarer...anyone know anything about them?

I am looking at a toyota soarer twin turbo from 1990. I am not to familiar with that car. So I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as far as to buy it or not. I would like to use it for drifting. Its has the 2.0 inline 6 twin turbo in it. The GZ20 I believe.

I heard something about the bearings spinning on these cars is a common problem?

turbos generally wear out around 100,000kms I've read.

the 1g-gte motors are generally farly tuff motors however there not a huge aftermarket for them and making any decent power out of them takes quite a bit of work.

There a few old japanee turbo kits floating around for them(hks,apexi,blitz etc.) though highest I have ever heard of out of it is around 300whp.

its got a 1g gte, gz20 is the chassis number. 1g gtes are alright engines. very hard to find aftermarket support though. probably not the greatest engine to for drifting as they dont make tons of torque.

Along with this 1990 also comes with a 1989 Soarer parts car with air suspension. From looking around its looking like that package only came with the 7M-GTE. I could do a swap of the engines because my tranny should fit that engine (correct me if Im wrong). Also comes with a CT-26 conversion kit for the 1990.

Any of that make it more worth it? Did it even make sense? Lol.

7m-gte is miles better then the 1g-gte despite the 7m reputation. throw a stocker or metal head gasket on with some ARP and run 57 or 60-1 ct-26...followed by some 550 and lexus afm and u can run 400whp all day long. and more torque then you know what to do with.

Alright. Haha. Not sure what all that means quite yet. Do any of you know a place to find body kits and interior mods for the soarer? Its pretty scarce online, haven't found a single bodykit available for this year.

Do you think I didn't try that already? There is nothing I can find for that year of Soarer from what I found. Thats why Im asking about it. I have spent hours looking for stuff for a 1990 soarer. I only find things for 91 and up. But thanks for your in depth help bud...

to be honest, unless your ready for a huge investment, that gen soarer is an expensive car to drift. ive looked into it back when i had a supra. your maita would be a much eaiser car to make into a drift car.

I can't keep the Miata anymore though. I love that car. Really nice to drive and drift. But I need something with more than two seats. So thats why Im checking out bigger cars. It would be my project for the winter and spring. If I didn't like it I can always get rid of it for something else. I suppose a Skyline would work to...

they're out there. you have to search, I've come across a couple for sale in the last couple weeks.. if I find them I'll send you the links.

I would say if you're going for a 2nd gen soarer find one with a 1jz-gte, there are quite a few in japan with them in it. but good luck finding one for 'cheap' cause they're going up in value because if their rarity.

You could just buy Ben's Soarer, it is in pristine condition.
