| I just picked up a Specialized Hardrock bike. It's a little rough around the edges, but I've got it taken apart and I'm going to paint it. With paint and a little brake work it'll be pretty minty; does anyone have a ballpark idea of what this is worth? I got it for $50. It has dual mechanical disc brakes. | |

| are you wondering what it would be worth now? or what it was worth in the past? Specialized used to be pretty decent bike company, and especially older ones weren't exactly department store quality. unless its one like this good indicator of a decent bike include clamp style seat post no reflectors pedals that dont have left and right markings edit: was looking at hard rock prices for a 2006 and looks to be around 500-600 dollar bike so it looks to be decent | |

| found some more info on the hard rock
Positives A great frame that is very versatile for many different sizes and weights. The frame can stand a lot of weight and handle some decent drop heights. Disc brakes are widely felt to be superior to the traditional kind, so even if the stock brakes on this bike aren't the best, they're still better than non-disc brakes. The price of the bike is very reasonable and affordable so it makes for a great entry into the sport, and with the solid frame the components can be easily replaced as the rider's skilsl increase.
Negatives For more experienced riders there are some issues with the stock components. The biggest complaint from users had to do with the included front suspension fork. Some of the more aggressive riders found the fork to be too weak for anything more than light trail riding. The other big issues dealt with the gears and the brakes. A few users reported problems with the disc brakes malfunctioning or at the very least producing a squeeking noise. The brakes are Tektro brand which appear to have a bad reputation among some riders. A lot of people didn't have any complaints about the brakes though, so it's not severe problem, but definitely something you should keep in mind and check out if you're looking at this bike. In regards to the gears (derailleur) some users found it difficult to hit the higher gears without performing some kind of tricks. These higher gears aren't that common to use anyway, so not many people complained about them, and again, you can always replace the gear system quite easily.
I have a specialized mountain bike in my backyard friend found it behind a dumpster in some weird small town had a moots stem on it of all things and i love it
years ago I bought a track bike for 700 one time and after a couple months i realized how horrible it was so then i spent 4 times as much and made a bike I actually like where I am going with this I have no idea but I like talking about bikes | |

| haha yeah i guess i quite enjoy talking about bikes too I'll take pictures of it tomorrow and post them. I'd just like to know how much I could sell it for once she's painted an reassembled. I used to have a Haro Mirra Pro, and a Schwinn Hydramatic, but both were stolen about 2 years ago. After that I completely gave up with bikes. goddamn thieves | |
