Witnesses in Canada are now coming forward following a traumatic and disturbing tractor-trailer crash Monday in Edmonton. The whole incident was caught on tape.
The truck driver sped the wrong way down a highway for close to 24 miles threatening hundreds of lives, before crashing in a ball of fire west of the city.
On Tuesday, the person who captured it on tape came forward with one of many accounts of how they narrowly avoided their own death.
It was a scene so shocking the woman behind the camera just had to get it on tape.
"We didn't know if we should just pull over and stop," said Teressa, accident videographer. "My husband just started flashing his lights to warn oncoming traffic"
The truck was heading in the same direction. The problem was it was traveling on the other side of the highway.
For nearly 39 kilometers the semi trailer endangered hundreds of Edmonton drivers like Dave Hrycak, who was on his way home Monday afternoon.
"All the cars started slowing down and moving to the right and we saw a bunch of dust straight ahead," said Hrycak. "We were wondering what was going on, then that big semi truck-trailer came shooting out in the west-bound lane heading east-bound"
Police believe the truck had been driving into oncoming traffic for about 30 minutes before rolling off an embankment and catching on fire. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.
Police in Edmonton are still investigating.
The truck driver's family says it is believed he may have gone into diabetic shock.
The woman who shot the video made it available to the public and the police in hopes some good can come out of the tragic event.
