Day Time Running Lights. Empty
PostSubject: Day Time Running Lights.   Day Time Running Lights. Icon_minitimeJuly 25th 2008, 2:30 pm

Okay, I suck/hate the wiring/electrical aspect for cars. That being said please bare with me.

As we all know for safety inspection's you need DRL's, I was told by someone who runs the inspections it doesn't specifcally have to be my headlights I have to wire up which will kind of save me a hassle due to them being pop ups. That being said I will most likely be dealing with either the foglights or side markers.

What is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks

well, basically, you'll need a relay, an inline fuse, and a lot of wire. Then you'll need to find a wire that is HOT(sorce of power) when the ignition is turned on. That is the cheapest and easiest way to do it. Its also pretty halfassed. But you could just tap into that wire, run wire to your lights(through the relay and the fuse) and use all quick connectors. that way you could pull it all out when you're done. Just make sure to do a good job, wiring isn't hard, but if it looks like a sketchy job, then worse case scenario, you burn your new car down

Sounds good! I'm starting to think that the car may have em already seeing as it is coming from B.C., but I will expect the worst.

You can get a DRL kit at can tire, for 35 bucks. Its basically a box and a bunch of wires, one of which is wrapped around a spark plug wire. This is how it knows when the car is running so the module box turns the DRL only when the car is on, I bought one to use on my 180 but i ended up just finding some wire under the dash that had power with the key on and not when its off so i used that and wired it to a set of fog lights. It was wiring going to an aftermarket turbo timer so I have no idea what I spliced into. I still have the kit I bought, if you want it I'll sell you it for like $15 i dont need it so might as well get rid of it. Look on the can tire website, search daytime running lights, it will bring it up. Let me know if you want mine.
