I regret not getting one, all coil sprun suspension would be nice, and they are much comfier The only ZJ's worth owning are still pretty rare. 4.0 H.O with the 5 spd manual..Which either ZJ or XJ or pretty much an indestructible combo. The 5.2 V8 engine is a total POS. Worst case get the 4.0 with the Auto, but even then that Auto is not the greatest on the planet and would probably be the weak link.. I wouldn't trust an Auto for a 4x4 that will see big tires and aggressive off roading. Heat is thy enemy! I guess there is always trans coolers, clutch kits, shift kits and the like for the Autos. But the Auto's = more work to try and bandage it up. But the Manual is a simple fluid change to redline fluid, and beat on it for another 200,000km.

| The ax15 5 speed is probably one of the best transmissions for a jeep. | |

AW4 with proper cooling is bullet proof Yeah...once you add a few upgrades you're fine.. The 5spd are awesome. But you need to do a fluid change right off the bat and get something good in there. I guess trans choice depends what you want to do I guess. If you want to hill climb the extra slip from the torque converter can go a long way, plus the added control of a steady climb. As opposed to burning up a clutch and lots of wheel hop. I'm more into trail stuff, then hill or rock climbing. Yaaaa I don't have a Jeep right now, but I've broken a few in the past....

| had a manual jeep, only regret the fun it was in the city. anywhere else it was terrible and such a hassle.
slow steady recoveries, where you cant spin tires? manual was way more of a hassle. trying to climb a hill in 4 hi, get bogged down, need to downshift, and you loose all your momentum. I miss being able to shift gears though.
the aw4 is a very reliable transmission, very strong.
