Its amazing! Those are going back on my DJ though, I went on a shopping spree on Chain Reaction this morning though and bought some DMR wingbars with a cross brace for like 30 dollars which have the same rise i think.

| i also dont get how that works, if you do V-mount arent you supposed to duct it up to the rad/intercooler and then duct it after the rad/intercooler? wouldn't the air just be stopping right after the intercooler cause its hitting the hood? | |

Couldn't tell ya, he said he plans on putting a vent in the hood to direct air at the intercooler but hasn't ran into any issues daily driving it. - Bjohnson wrote:

It would be a lot better to have a vent to direct air through the top side then sucked through with the air coming in through the grill to the rad. But as it sits it's still better than having no intercooler lol.

The way its setup, it would be as inefficient as running no intercooler.

| So is the rad v-mount to? or just mounted vertically like normal?
edit: Bahr it scares me how we post the same shit at the same time...

I disagree, the fins will do a lot more than just containing all the air in a solid tube would. The radiator isn't in the stock location but it is sitting vertically at the far edge of the intercooler.

There would be air on the bottom side keeping it cooler, obviously not as efficient as it would be with a vented hood but like I said it's a daily driver and not a full blown race car where intake temps are closely watched. This all being said there could be a fan on the bottom, I don't know whether or not there is lol.

I disagree, the fins will do a lot more than just containing all the air in a solid tube. The radiator isn't in the stock location but it is sitting vertically at the far edge of the intercooler. With no air going through it, all you have is essentially the same as straight piping. Sure the surface area of the fins may be a bit more than just straight pipe, but i doubt by much at all. And that would actually be a deficit since you have a greater surface area directly exposed to essentially an oven (rotary engine bay). When I sit in traffic I can watch my air temps rise, and they will just keep doing so until I get moving again, at which point I can watch them fall. But until I get moving and get air through the intercooler (properly ducted front mount), it does nothing at all. If you think about it, while I sit there, no air is going through the intercooler; I might as well have a straight through pipe. Once air goes through it again, it starts actually cooling the charge and doing what it is supposed to. If you understand what i'm saying, you will understand that without air passing through the intercooler it truely isnt doing anything at all.

| i would hope it has some sort of ducting to get to the rad and intercooler. Daily or not, if you're going to do it. Do it properly. | |

I wish the subaru guys would listen to well though out statements like that. while yes, the fins and the larger surface area do help disapate heat, as soon as that surface area becomes hotter than the intake air, the air will then begin to take on the rising temp of the engine bay. Heat laws state that heat transfers from warmer objects to cooler objects, always, and without air passing over it to cool the larger surface area, it is just a larger surface area to attract the new underhood heat. I always wondered why people dont put on electric fans on intercooler set ups like that, or TMICs to bring air over them at slow spped opperation, it would provide greater efficiency than even a FMIC in similar circumstances.
