| For you guys who are awesome at taking pictures.
When your in a low light situation like night time, how can you take a clear action shot, say of a car driving past you? The only way I've been able to get clear shots is during the day when I have a fast shutter speed, but at night, they always turn out way to dark, and I can't slow the speed down or else the picture becomes blurry?

You need to open your aperature more to let more light in. At night you need to have your aperature open more and a longer shutter speed. However, once you do this you need to stay very still as any movement will affect the picture. Adjusting your ISO could help as well but I don't know as much about ISO, I do know it will affect your picture quality.

| As far as the settings go that I used (I’ll post pictures when I get home tonight) I use TV on my camera, I have my ISO set to 800 and 1/5 to 1/6 normally gives me decent quality photo's. If you leave it open longer, say 0.3" (or open longer) then you need a tripod/something solid, but I hate carrying a tripod around so I normally improvise by using the ground, sitting down and using my knees, poles, fences and sometimes other people’s shoulders. I'm by no means good at it yet, I get half decent photos, I take quite a few but not everyone turns out. Only about 60% of my night photo's are actually worth looking at so far.
As for rolling night shots, I have only gotten a few that are in focus and almost acceptable in my standards.

| BLACK I would not even try to capture action at night unless you have very steady hands and can pull of panning at 1/40th of a second shutter speed, this is of course if you actually want to display a sense of movement such as a blurred background. Freezing action will consequently force you to bump up your ISO so you can use a faster shutter speed, unless you are using a near top of the line camera your pictures will be grainy at an ISO of probably 800 but for sure 1600. I am assuming you are using a kit lens which will make night time photography a bitch pretty much in general(f/3.5-5.6 is too slow) something with an aperature of f/1.8 such as the 50mm or 35mm f/1.8 would be really useful if you are doing low light stuff alot. The 50mm f/1.8 is probably one of the most bought lens from both Canon and Nikon, they are both extremely sharp and very(very, very, very) affordable, in fact, there's a Canon version for sale on these forums right now. Just make sure if your camera will autofocus with it on or not, manual focus is pretty much always a pain in the ass. | |

Sorry about the random different sizes I just picked what size I thought looked best. These are all 306 meets and or forum members in the pictures. Album links Aug 5th 306 MeetAug 12th 306 Meet
