| well I just bought a new tv, so here's how it goes: Stay away from LG. Sony is great, and I was torn between Sony and Samsung. I chose the samsung purely becasue it had everything the same as the Sony, except the Samsung had a faster response time. I bought an LCD only becasue it was better for video games, and thats teh only reason I bought the TV. If it were only being used to watch TV and movies, I would probably opt for a Plasma. Purer blacks, and amazing response time. | |

| I bought the Samsung 650 and love it. The S's much like the chassis is the best way to go. Except for T.V that means Samsung, Sony or Sharp. Depending on what your parents want and or need it could affect what they should get. I.E will they will purchase a blu ray player? | |

| We have a Sony Bravia and there are no regrets. There are enough audio/video ports to hook up all your consoles at once and then a billion other things. Plus, porn is sweet ass on hi-def. | |

| I have a 32" LCD Toshiba in my room for over a year and it probably runs an average of 4 hours a day, and it has not failed me yet, also our new 52" Panosonic Plasma has an amazing picture, but i cant vouch for its life as we've only had it a few months but at the moment both look incredible.. agreed tho go for plasma if you are not planning to play any games on it | |

| If your going over 50 and feeding something like bluray go 1080p 120hz won't regret it. Me I have a 32" samsung 1080p got the tv cheaper then the 720p on a best buy goof up.
Anyways when buying a tv from samsung check to make sure it's an S panel that means it was manufactured by Samsung not like a C or A panel those were contracted out and trust me they look like shit the blacks are crap in those ones. You wants lots of HDMI inputs, although I hate copyright laws if I feed my tv an HDMI signal and want to take optical out from the tv because of copyright the tv can't pass a DD signal only if it is from cable card or over the air HD. Some people have come across I think Phillip tv's which can pass a DD signal but not Sony or Samsung I know, maybe the 2000.00 tvs can I don't know. If you don't have surround sound or never plan on it I guess you wouldn't care if you do, look to get a deal on a HDMI receiver then at the same time as a TV. Me I like audiowarehouse They gave me free dvd's when my parents bought there tv 3.5 years ago and some free HDMI cords I'm sure best buy doesn't do that.
Best bet is to research on avsforum.com thats what I did and kept watching for a good deal.

do it. Blu-ray is sick and beat out HD-DVD so yeah if you want blu-ray might as well get the PS3 cause you end up with more in the end rather than just a normal blu-ray player.

| Hey guys I actually work at Futureshop in home theatre...first of all, a lot of tv decision making is personal preference. Gaming, movies, hd programming, etc will look very good on both lcd and plasma.
Generally speaking, if you have a room with a lot of direct sunlight or bright lights, I wouldn't recommend a plasma, however if that isn't an issue, I'd probably recommend anything from Panasonic. Samsung plasmas arn't as good as a Pana however they're quite cheaper. LG is more extreme with that, they're basically the only plasma that suffers from large amounts of burn in. They have basically no response time, as well as real, rich colours. Once again, the downfall would be glare, LG burn in, and weight (if you want to mount on a wall or stand.)
LCDs are brighter, have more extravagant colours, but are slower. The standard LCD will produce content at 60hz, the higher end and more expensive LCDs can do 120hz (future is 240hz). I would recommend anything from Sharp, Samsung, Sony, as well as some LG models.
Samsung: 5 series - 1080p, 60hz 6 series - 1080p 120hz 7 series - 1080p 120hz + internal hd + divx playback
Sharp: - 64+65 series - 1080p, 60hz 84+85 series - 1080p, 120hz 94 series - 120hz, (65" screen)
Sony: V series - 1080p, 60hz W series - 1080p, 120hz Z series - 1080p, 120 hz, slim bezel
LG - Lg70 - 1080p, 120hz
Plasmas... Panasonic PX - 720p PZ - 1080p
Samsung 4 series - 720p 5 series - 1080p
Just a general outline of the main tvs I sell...hope this helps.
