Marshal's post is 100% true, no one here cares. I along with many others know that. Its also the fact of "supporting the imitators" which is also another huge argument thrown around in a real vs. fake thread.

That what I originally said, cast wheels are more likely to crack and forged more likely to bend. Like that TE37 Adrian posted. And I love TE37's, I definitely know and understand why expensive wheels cost what they do. But some people get way carried away with being wheel snobs, I mean I've seen stickers for sale that say "friends don't let friends buy Rota's" like we get it you have nice wheels on your car, you don't need to be an asshole about it.

And Adrian, the wheel pics I posted came from a VW forum, not PBnation, whatever that is? I have more and different ones on my PC, but it's just way easier and faster if they are already hosted for me, you're a smart guy I sure you can appreciate that. And you shouldn't respect me because I'm old and wise, you should respect me because I have a fucking huge penis!

Anyways back on topic: How the wheel breaks or doesn't break in a crash is down to many factors, the wheels weight in regard to how much actual material was used, forged or cast, etc. I fully agree. Can we at least agree it's nearly impossible the driver of that Evo was just cruising down the street at 50km/h and that XXR exploded into pieces? Mad

The thing with XXR's is this, all you get is a gravity cast wheel, so it's not likely to survive a trip over a curb, and the weight is not particularity light. ( I weighed the 8's at 17lbs and the 7's at 16.25) However my 15x8 XXR's do weigh less then my 15x7 Borbets I had. Both cast, but Borbet's were German TUV cert, so presumably stronger. Also they are not radically heavy as stock VW15x6's weight about 16lbs....so meh it's just a cast wheel, nothing special.

I mean yeah compared to TE37's they are lead weights. a 15x8 TE37 is about 12lbs (the 15x6 is th 9lb one). So a low priced cast wheel of the same size is 5lbs heavier a corner, and not as strong. That's where your money went.

my point still stands, you comparing a forged wheel to a cast aluminum. they may weigh close to the same, one is still stronger.

the chances of you being able to repair a rim that isnt scattered into a million pieces after hitting a curb is higher too....

so its now replacement vs repair. Chances are if you hit something with enough momentum to shatter a cast wheel, you will likely cause a vast amaount of damage to the unibody frame, chances are you wont be taking the set of 3 wheels with you to the next car. Also, a cast wheel is alot cheaper to replace, becasue most wheel shops will charge 100$ to even paint a wheel, let alone reweld/straighten/machine the wheel, especially labour is usually charged out at $100/hour+ shop tools ect ect.

I like how far some threads go off topic, gotta love the whole no moderator thing. You go to argue and beak someone on any other forum and you get a PM next day saying they removed your comments, WTF.
