PostSubject: Wheel breaks, car = fucked.   November 14th 2011, 8:09 pm

I didn't know where else to put this...

Car is going straight down the road. The road did not have any pot holes, the driver was not under the influence of any drugs/alcohol. In a split second, the right front passenger side wheel collapsed and made the car pull to the right instantly. The EVO then hit the rear corner of a parked car (the parked car had very little damage). No airbags went off, no one was hurt.

The guy thinks the wheel had a hairline crack from previous pothole or w/e.

I didn't post this to make people with this make of wheel mad or anything, I am just passing on a story.

here is a link to the thread if you'd like to read more:

1. Don't let women drive EVO's

2. You know how many pictures I have on my PC of Enkei's, Work, and other higher end wheels that look way worse then that.

In the case of strength, a cast wheel is a cast wheel. (forged wheels are stornger, and bend not crack....duh) The RPF is loved by many, super light, low pressure cast and not strong all. Lots of people have that wheel so it's not like it's not proven. Could be a defect (air pocket or something) or maybe he cracked it an earlier time, or maybe he popped it off a curb and is just lying so he doesn't seem like another idiot with a smashed EVO or STI (cause the net if full of people that love to crash those fuckers up)

Also nice missing lug nut, I bet the rest of the car was just as well built... tongue And why the fuck does he even mention the driver was not under the influence of drugs and alcohol, this whole story wreaks of bullshit. Your sis got drunk and fucked the car up, and is looking for a place to blame it, end of story. Gut says good wheels bend not crack, also not accurate.

3. Don't let women drive EVO's

2. Sure, but they were probably all demolished into a curb or something. If he/she hit a curb with that evo, don't you think the damage wouldn't be so high up? it definitely looks like the car hit another car. so i believe the story. also i would assume he said " not under the influence" because that would have been one of the first comments. It also says it probably happened from previously hitting a pothole.

Yeah ok, so who's to say the wheel didn't break hitting the other car. I don't know like I said lots of people have that same XXR and drift the shit out of them and they don't break. I have time believing "Ohh I was driving along minding my own business and the wheel just spontaneously flew apart into a million pieces" uhhh huuuh stick with that when the cops or you insurance company comes knockin' cause they weren't born yesterday either. Rolling Eyes

And what's up with the missing lug nut? You took such good care of the car, you forgotten to tighten the lug nuts?

And finally, guy is a fucking liar flat out anyways.

Quote :
My sister bought these wheels to use for the winter with snow tires

ohh those are quite the SNOW tires you have there.

And 35mph (50kph) pushed the suspension right into the firewall, just suck it up and admit you fucked up, nobody is buying your shit. I'm not saying XXR's are good, or even compare to Enkei or other cast wheels. But for fuck sakes, obviously that's not wheel failure, it's crash damage.

I'm sorry. It still amazes me that people would actually replace their factory EVO/STI wheels with cheap rota/xxr/konig's. I just don't get it.

Especially when STI and EVO wheels are BBS, I get a little chubby every time I see them! Hell even my buddies Cobalt SS turbo factory wheels are 18", forged, and pretty light. Factory stuff is getting better and better all the time.

I agree, if you understand the dynamics of a wheel, it wouldnt just fail like that. How could every single pressure point that attaches the hub to the outer barrel just shatter, all at once.

you are seeing what you want to see and believing what you want to believe. They are tons of stories about wheels failing, brand name or other, and it all just fuels the hype.

im not even gonna quote Heretic anymore.

but when i zoom in on the lugnut missing, it actually appears that the stud sheered off. A.K.A the lug nut went flying. Also drifting wheels is completely different then hitting a pothole. i highly highly doubt that hitting a car would cause that kind of shattering damage to a wheel. if a tire or in this case a wheel blows apart and steers itself into a car at that angle i could see why the suspension is pushed back, especially at 50km/h. Also i believe he says that she decided to use the wheels before winter hit or after winter was over, and its not even winter in that picture so that comment is rather irrelevant.

and if you look at the damage to that wheel, it is clearly damage caused by an impact. Based purely on how the portions have been sheared.

haha looks like he jumped a curb and hit a pole or something.

i love the hate xxrs get, but yet i have a set of wheels that fit a miata perfect, are in a competitive size, look decent, I wouldn't call them heavy by an means and I bought them for 600 dollars for all 4 shipped to my door, new. I don't worry about scratching them when throwing them on to a trailer or changing them 5 times at an event.

Like obviously I would love to have legit wheels, but I would much rather have an all around modded car then a stock roadster lowered on 4000 dollar work CR01s....

PS this is directed at you personally BJ lol

haha I knew it would be, I am pro-real wheels if you call it? because of the quality.

the link HERE is from Work wheels, telling you all of the regulations their wheels meet and how they test them.

This link HERE is about Rota's quality testing. it says at the top that "rota wheels meets international quality standards" well, what international quality standards? they don't give you any insight on what regulations their wheels meet.

I found this video on weds sport's website. They guy talking is pretty hard to understand, but you can see what happens when they campare a fake to a real wheel HERE

XXR doesn't have very much information but they do tell you what standards their wheels meet. They don't tell you if they do or what they do for quality testing though. HERE

Konig and Enkei have nothing about what standards or tests their wheels meet or go through. Maybe i didn't look hard enough?

I just did a quick search on these wheel brands websites off the top of my head for you. I don't feel like going through every manufactures website lol. Im not trying to prove you wrong or anything, but this is why i am pro-real wheels.

I've had my rotas for three years and they haven't broken to bits yet. I'd buy another set.

Well if they aren't BBS's I would be very surprised if they weren't OEM'd from Enkei or Ray's.

Just Checked and STI's are Cast Enkei's. EVO GSR's are Cast Enkei's and EVO MR's are Forged BBS.

I think I read back in the day that OEM business at Enkei accounts for 95% of their output.

Wheels are wheels, sure you can talk about quality etc etc but at the end of the day alot comes down to how you take care of your stuff.

You cant blame a wheel for a human error, if your stupid enough to street drift or hit a curb dont blame the wheel manufacturer for shattering you have other things to worry about.

Sure wed all love to have name brand stuff sadly this is what our society has come to. In the end its more on how you treat your stuff, just cause my mp3 player isnt an Apple Ipod or my bicycle isnt a Kona or Norco doesnt mean that it wont last and get the job done if taken care of properly.

If your Rota Rim cant handle smashing into a curb, maybe avoid the curb.
