| Not really. Only advantages that I can think of would be stronger recovery points, and the ability to body lift (which looks stupid anyways).
Otherwise a full frame is just extra weight.

| No, it is like saying they would be better if they were real trucks. They are fine for moderate wheeling, but the uni body will kink if you go hard on them. A frame is pretty integral to an off road vehicle and adds significant strength. | |

I guess youd be pretty wrong for the moderate wheeling part, as they are extensively offroaded, in just about every place serious offroaders are found, youll find a cherokee or a grand cherokee, including many dedicated offroad parks and in the mountains. Anything more than this sort or "moderate" wheeling, youll be running more than 38 inches of tires to get over the rocks, and then a unibody isnt going to be your limiting factor, youll be needing to run 1 ton axles, 40" plus tires, and rank 5.88+ geers. And if you had all that in mind, you certainly wouldnt want to be starting with a baby offroader. Unless you are talking serious rock crawling or jumping it 30 feet at a time, and then they dont use production vehicle frames for those. Youll break much more before you twist a unibody frame to the paint where it actually matters. Metal is designed the flex and twist, and spring back to its original shape, and that is why they use it in production vehicles And there are multiple companies that make unibody strengheners as well. a unibody is designed to be as strong, its all intergral, and works as a unit. Frames are also quite heavy. Im not quite sure what you had in mind for making a frame kink, but I bet your average 1/2 ton frame wouldnt last either, you might want to reconsider how you go about the obstical. Youll be destroying more than a unibody or a frame if you manage to kink/bend one. Youd probably want more than the teeny d30 front axle there too. Look at those raptors where the chumps bent the frames on them. Its not what you do, its how you do it, the guys who knew what they were doing didnt bend their frames and made the jumps just fine. Next youre going to tell me how aluminum would be a terrible idea for body armour on offroad vehicles. Id say as an entry level offroader, they are the best bang for your buck. 2 solid axles, strong motor, vast aftermarket support, and parts cost pennies, and lets face it, there is nothing you and I are capable of doing here in saskatchewan, that would justify a body on frame vehicle over a unibody, as most framed vehicles twist and flex just as much as a shitty cherokee because almost every one is just plain c-channel frame. Dont get me wrong, if I could afford a brand new unimog to pose around the city in, I would. Quite frankly thats what anyone in this province does with a 4x4, is pose, becasue there is no rubicon trail, or austrailian outback, People would laugh if they found out I wanted to fabricate unibody supports to hit mud holes and climb up sand pits pn the weekend. Its like trying to justify putting an alcohol motor into a road car so you can drive it to the grocery store. Its want vs need.

| I concur, Dollar for dollar nothing beats the XJ. Solid Axles front and pack, NP231 center, Alway Dana fronts, lots have Dana 35 rears, some actually came with Dana 44' rears. The Inline 6 is pretty much indestructible. For the average off roader. They are pretty much the best factory set up. Especially considering you can buy super clean ones for $6000 ( hell there is a great 99 for sale in Regina right now for $3500) and don't get me wrong I hate Dodge products, but I love Jeeps. And just to post something, this is a Regina truck, my buddy is into FJ's (on his 2nd one) and this was posted on the FJ forum. It was a Nice car.... - Quote :
- So my time almost came to an end this morning... im very lucky to be alive.
First of all, GO HUG YOUR WIFE/HUBBY and tell them you love them.
i had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and over night the truck filled with the gas. i noticed the smell, and opened the doors to air out the truck. i drove the truck out of the garage to get some more air movement. i went to roll the pass side window down and as soon as i touched the power windows. BAM. with me in the truck. i lost all hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. all things considering, im alive.
so now ive got the question out to toyota about a 2012 TT. 125 to canada only, 15 in standard. i want a standard...
pictures tell 1000 words.
dont take any minutes or seconds you have for granted... it may be your last...
peace everyone, evan...

For the average off roader. They are pretty much the best factory set up. Especially considering you can buy super clean ones for $6000 I've read on forums that lots of them had dana 35 in the rear, but I rarely ever find them unless it had ABS, or a 4 cylinder engine. 8/10 XJ's i've seen at bucks have had chrysler 8.25. Marshals has the 8.25, buddy of mine had 2 XJ's that both had the 8.25, as well as mine. Canadian jeeps more likely to have the 8.25 VS U.S?? I have no idea.. I have yet to find a Dana 44 though. I love XJ's, but I would buy an early 80's toyota 1/4 ton in a heart beat if I found a clean one for a reasonable price. Just have to find a replacement for the powerless 20/22R

| Hahah. Joe I just saw the FJ on 306 and almost shit myself. My dad just bought a Yellow 2008 a few weeks back and I thought it was his. Turns out yellow 6-speeds are that much more rare now. | |
